Supporting the Lopez Island Community Through Art

Kristi Carpine-Taber
Lopez Island is part of the archipelago of the San Juan Islands, nestled in the far Northwest corner of Washington state. It is the home of a strong artist community inspired by the lush forests, farmlands, mountain vistas and exquisite shorelines.
I began painting in my retirement inspired by Lopezian pastelist Steve Hill’s vibrant depictions of the daffodil fields in the Skagit Valley. The velvety texture and boldness of the medium made me fall in love with pastels. Steve's paintings drew me to take a few workshops from him, which kicked off my passion for painting.
I have branded my work "Strictly Lopez” as my focus to use my art to support the Lopez Island Community. I predominately paint scenes of Lopez Island and my passage to Lopez through the Skagit valley. As my work expands to other galleries, I am broadening my focus to paint other parts of the Pacific Northwest. This year, I plan to submit my paintings in at least two more juried shows. Stay tuned!
We are deeply blessed by the beauty and tranquility of our island. My goal as an artist is to give back to the Lopez Island community. All my proceeds from the sale of my work goes to 501c3 organizations on Lopez Island. Another way to give back is to provide affordable and uplifting art to the community.
Hopefully some of these paintings will make you gasp out loud. If this happens to you, please let me know, for my hope is take your breath away with the stunning beauty of the Pacific Northwest and share the joy of living in this area of the country.
